This is a physically challenging 19-day adventure and takes you across three high altitude passes - Renjo la (5388m), Cho La (5380m), and Kongma La (5535 m); through picturesque deep lush valleys and offers views of numerous massive peaks: Khumbu, Bhotekoshi, Gokyo, and Imja Tse. Besides the high passes, you will also climb several peaks: Mt. Gokyo Ri (5483m), Kala Patthar (5545m), and Chhukung (5550m) before reaching the legendary Everest Base Camp – the launching pad to the world’s highest mountain – Mt. Everest (8848m).
The list of places to see on this 19-day trek includes the vivid turquoise blue Gokyo Lakes (4,700–5,000m); Gokyo Ri (5357m); trek to the rarely visited and remote trading route between Nepal and Tibet -Nangpa La Pass; the large Sherpa village of Marlung (4260m) and the Thame Tibetan Buddhist Monastery – the oldest in the Khumbu region dating back to the early 17th century. The monastery sits 200 meters above Thame on the side of Sumdur Mountain and offers awesome views of the Himalayan Mountains.
This is one of the most jam-packed and extensive treks in the Everest region. This trek is ideally suited to those with a good level of fitness and for those who want to venture well off the beaten track to remote locations. The high altitude 3 passes make it necessary for the trekker to be fit and healthy. The altitude exhausts you and makes it much tougher going than other treks at lower elevations. The ideal time of year to do this trek is in autumn (Sept to November) and spring (March to May) minimizing the chance of being snowed in and unable to cross the passes.
Lukla is the ideal and usual starting point of this trek. However, if you have more time then you can extend the trek by starting from Jiri, Phaplu or Salleri. Uma Holidays Travel & Tours is happy to customize this trek to suit your time schedule.
