The Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek is a 21 day tea house trek taking explorers up-near the eighth most elevated mountain on the planet – Mount Manaslu at 8,163m, and through the shrouded valley of Tsum. Having just opened in the mid 1990's (and the Tsum Valley segment a lot later) this has the vibe of an exploratory trek, far away the beaten path and a long way from hordes of trekkers. With normal day lengths of 7 hours, it is a requesting trek and a significant level of wellness is required to completely appreciate the experience. On the Tsum Valley area of the trek, elevations are over 3,000m and trekkers do need to cross the Larkya La at 5,160m, regularly through day off ice, and now and then fixed ropes might be important.
The trek itself takes in roaring cascades and waterways; testing rough path sticking to bluff faces; Gurung towns with rice and millet patios; long and intellectually testing suspension spans; mani dividers, chortens, and other Buddhist places of worship, especially on the Tsum Valley area.
